Description

This workshop will cover the information and techniques, and follow the same format as the CPW/RF collaborative workshop, (please see description above).  The workshop will take place entirely at the Art Association of Jackson Hole in Wyoming.

Preparation of supports and grounds for photography

Slide show and discussion of the history of encaustic including its' revival in the 20th century

Photography Demonstrations which include: Cyanotype, Pinhole Photography, Polaroid transfers, digital printing, digital negatives, toning, hand coloring photographs, transfers, and more...

Encaustic Demonstrations which include: tools and techniques for fusing, transparencies and glazes, layering and scraping/scribing, building up of texture, line and edge, collage, assemblage, casting, carving, and working 3-Dimensionally, monotype, image transfer, combining oil and encaustic, dipping, and much more...  

Schedule

9:30am - 5pm each day. 

What Materials Are Included

The use of all paints and equipment is included in the cost of the classes.

Meals:  Participants should expect to eat lunch out at a local restaurant or bring a bagged lunch.

Class Size

Class size is limited to between 8 - 12 participants to ensure productive workshop sessions. 

What You Need to Bring

Required:

bullet

4 - 20 images (maximum size 11” x 14”) on fiber, RC and/or digital papers (matt finish preferred)

bullet

panels/supports, should be rigid and absorbent (see enclosed sheet on supports) -we recommend 4 - 20 panels (with dimensions to match the size of your photographs as well as 5” x 7” and 8” x 10” for work done in class) - 2 - 10 photographs (fiber based) can be pre-mounted to panels prior to class (see sheet on supports for instructions on gluing paper to panel)

bullet

bristle, sable, and/or Hake artist brushes, no synthetic brushes (they burn) or used brushes (danger of solvent residue)

Optional:

Photocopies (color and/or B&W), small: prints, drawings, watercolor, tempera or gouache paintings, collage papers (handmade papers), imagery from magazines, newspapers, etc… for copying and s

bullet

scanning, photographs for collaging and montaging

bullet

-small works on paper for dipping (should be absorbent and heat resistant), including photographs (keep in mind that some papers are not absorbent and will be just for experiment - we will be

discussing this during the workshop)

bullet

polaroids (669, 667 prints) for transfers, 4” x 5” or larger negatives

bullet

oil pastels, crayons, watercolors, magic markers for hand coloring,

silk, cotton, or other fabrics for transferring
