NOTICE TO CUSTOMERS ON 21st
CENTURY TACKING IRONS:
We have had two
complaints from
customers that their 21st Century Tacking Irons malfunctioned. We talked to the
manufacturers who said that this problem is extremely rare. Please keep in
mind that we have sold this iron for years and have never encountered such a
problem. Also remember that irons, and all other heated tools, should
never be left unattended. It is also strongly suggested that since many of
you are working with electrical equipment, that you have a fire extinguisher in
your studio. Any new information will be posted promptly
NOTICE
TO CUSTOMERS ON GESSO:
"Titanium dioxide has
been determined to
be a possible carcinogin to humans if the dry pigment is breathed in. It has
no such effect in contact with skin or from ingestion (which is good
news since it's in most sun screens and is used as a whitener in foods and
toothpaste). This means that it also continues to be non-hazardous in paints.
"However, it has often been used in dry gesso
compounds, including ours. The dust from handling the compound and, especially
from sanding gesso panels is therefore no longer a nuisance dust but a hazard.
We are now making the gesso compound with zinc sulfide. The color and opacity
may be slightly different than the titanium white-based gesso, but it will be
much safer.
If you have any of our gesso compound in your
studio, please return it to us, and we will replace it with the zinc
sulfide-based gesso."
