Encaustic Assemblage

Class Levels: Intermediate.

Registration for this class has been extended to June 9th.

In this three day workshop students will be working found objects, manufactured materials and other miscellany to make 3D compositions on panel. This class will involve an in depth survey of the ways that objects and materials can be used with Encaustic paint and pigment sticks in a relief style of work. Students work with a variety of tools, hardware and adhesives in this class to learn safe and secure ways of constructing. We look at some specific encaustic techniques that adapt well to working with objects like pouring, building texture and basic sculpting. All work will be composed on panels or students are welcome to bring other absorbent substrates. This workshop offers students a chance to expand on traditional encaustic painting by exploring the dimensional qualities of wax. This class is recommended for those interested in combining media and material aficionados. It’s recommended that participants have a working knowledge of the encaustic process.
