Can an oil painting surface be coated with a layer of the clear blending stick to create a luminous quality? If so, when that surface had dried, can it be buffed in the same way encaustic paints are polished?

Hi Alice - sorry I didn't notice your post sooner. You can use the blending stick as a clear layer, but if you want to be able to buff it like encaustic, then you should gently heat it after application. Heating it will cause the wax that's in the stick to melt and encapsulate the oil. When it's cool and hard, you can polish it, however, pigment sticks are never as luminous as encaustic. I'd be interested in hearing about your results.

Thanks, Laura! I didn't realize there was enough wax in the stick to encapsulate the oil. Good info!
