Floater frame source?

I've been searching for a really clean, simple but deep floater frame to display my work in.  I work mainly on a 1 1/2" deep cradle and like to keep the edges of my pieces rough.  I'm worried that the edges will get chipped off so the frame needs to be deeper than the cradle slightly for protection.  Does anybody have a good source or any suggestions?  I have my first student show coming up and I'm getting desperate.

Here's a link to Metropolitan Frames. I think you might find what you need there.

Re: Floater frame source?

It's always good to have another source for art supplies but I don't see floater frames on your website.  Can you either direct me to them or email me frame samples?

Re: Floater frame source?

Hi

Our floating frames are available as a custom frame type order. Unfortunately you would have to come into our store to see them. If you are very interested in our frames I can always scan the actually sample of frame and post them. What do you think???

Cheers
Earl

Hi Allison,

Eileen Goldenberg was nice enough to share her frame sources with me recently so I'll pass them on to you too:

Pictureframes.com has metal float frames as well as wood.

I haven't ordered from any of them yet so if anyone has a preference please say so.

Take care,
Linda Womack

Re: Floater frame source?

Hello,

I am a big fan of the Graphic Dimensions "Canvas Floater" frames available via their catalog or website.

I use these frames for nearly all of my paintings and find that they do a good job of:  (1) protecting the edges of the painting; (2) providing a bit of an "offset" from the work to the face of the frame; and (3) enough different styles available (metal frames in two depth profiles, as well as solid wood frames in two depth profiles as well) to be used with 99.9% of my paintings.

I have been using this company for more than 10 years now for most of framing needs, and I can say that they are really good at what they do, prices are pretty reasonable, but I would recommend ordering "early" and not waiting too long to get the frames on order, as the shipping can be delayed from time to time if you use the "standard shipping" :-)

Search for "Canvas Floater II" if this link below doesn't work:

Thanks for the info.  I've been seeing them at

and was curious about the quality and shipping.   Do you have them join the frames or do you do that yourself?  Their prices look pretty good too.

Re: Floater frame source?

For the wooden frames, they are shipped completed, but for the metals ones, you have to assemble via these little corner pieces.  Pretty much a snap to do.  I've purchased (and sold, haha) hundreds of these frames and they seem to hold up well over time too.

Cheers,
Chris
