Pigment Sticks and Oil Monotypes?

Hi
I do oil monotypes on Plexi, print on Rives BFK with a standard etching press. Would lines drawn with Pigment Sticks transfer onto the paper? I wet my paper before transfer. I really would like to add some linear elements to my images and the thin brush strokes smoosh out into blobs.
Can the Sticks be thinned (to washes) with thinner like oil pastels and would they print also?  Thanks for any info you can give

Re: Pigment Sticks and Oil Monotypes?

I have used R&F pigment sticks on plexi for monotypes in the past and they worked great! I also wet my paper and they transferred well. They also thin well for washes with solvents.

Re: Pigment Sticks and Oil Monotypes?

Hi Mr. Thompson
thank you for your informative reply.  I went to your website and I saw your beautiful work. I was wondering, is there any image on there that you have used the pigment sticks in this way? Or, any images by any other artist who is also using the Pigment Sticks in this way. It seems like it would work, but I sure would like to see it.

Re: Pigment Sticks and Oil Monotypes?

Sorry Minnie,
None of the monotypes are on my web site. I pulled out the ones I have but we were using so many different mediums back then I am not sure which ones included oil stick. They are similar to doing monotypes with printing ink, however. Typical intaglio prints use oil based inks and water soaked paper. Perhaps you should just buy a couple of small pigment sticks and give them a try.
