Fayum Portraits

During the reign of Tiberius (AD 14-37) painted portraits were inserted into mummies, replacing 3D Egyptians funeral masks.  The mummy belongs to the egyptian religious ritual, but the Greek portraits imported into Egypt via Macedonia, show the appreciation the society had for the illusionistic potential of Greek painting.
