R&F Artist of the Month / LISA PRESSMAN
Q & A with Lisa Pressman & gallery Director Laura Moriarty
LM: Your work appears to have remnants buried in it - how do you identify and collect these notes, drawings, etc. that end up in your work? Do they have a particular significance?
LP: Most of those “remnants” do have some kind of significance one way or another. Many years ago I began to collect vintage postcards — My mother was an antiques dealer who had books of them so I began to use them in my work. In fact, Laura, the first encaustic workshop I took was with you here in New Jersey and at the time I was trying to incorporate the postcards with the wax. I have photocopies of the text side of many of them in my collage box. You will find text and stamps still lurking in the layers of my paintings...
