Artwork: Array 75 , Triptych, each panel 48"x8", encaustic on wood, by EileenP.Goldenberg©2010.
About Eileen:
Eileen has been an artist her whole life, doing photography, ceramics, drawing and painting using encaustics. Her extensive research and studying diverse topics, such as quantum physics and biology, gives her a rich visual language to serve as a vehicle to express herself. She passionately teaches art and believes that no one should be denied learning to express themselves. Eileen received her BFA from Alfred University and her MFA from the University of Iowa. Her work is shown in galleries all over the US including Hallway Gallery in Bellevue, WA and Conrad Wilde Gallery in Tucson, AZ. She also shows her work at many prestigious art shows such as the Bellevue Arts Museum Show and 225F: Encaustic Encounters at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts.
Artist Statement
The Array series is minimalist, grid based, with a soft geometry and emotional color. My work is a quiet reflection of my experiences and feelings. I paint for the pure pleasure of feeling the substance of the encaustic paint and putting my voice into a visual form. I sketch ideas and then paint from those concepts, creating long series of paintings that are related. Complexity, surface, and translucency are elements in my work.

The 1st of a series of free encaustic demos for kids was a huge success at the Encaustic Art Institute in Cerillos, New Mexico! EAI’s Educational Director, Carol Ware and Program Director, Russell Thurston gave a hands-on demo at the opening of the “Hot Wax” exhibition, where, as you can see, the parents seemed to enjoy trying encaustic painting as much as the kids. Move over Hasbro - R&F is coming to town!
Check out these families working with our paints on the Paula Roland HotBox for encaustic printmaking.

R&F Handmade Paints donated materials for this project, and we look forward to future collaborations with the Encaustic Art Institute.
R&F will be presenting another workshop at EAI this August. Gina Adams will be the instructor, and it promises to be a wonderful workshop. For more info, or to enroll, please visit; August 4-8 EAI Workshop

Color for Knowledge is a new program R&F has launched as a way to make connections between artists, retailers and communities involved in encaustic-based educational projects. This program supports local, national and international art educators by creating partnerships and supplying them with high quality art materials for their programs.

Through this program, R&F teams up with highly-motivated, independent working artists, helping to strengthen their projects and educational opportunities through donated materials, technical support, and by encouraging partnerships with local art supply stores. R&F appreciates the excitement and enthusiasm that these artists are spreading about encaustic. We understand that they are helping to make encaustic painting accessible to those who might not otherwise have an opportunity to be introduced to it. This program aims to help nurture the professional artist, create new and knowledgeable practitioners, and bring community art supply stores into the educational spotlight.
Please visit our website for more information, guidelines, and application instructions.

Richard attended this year’s conference which was held in Mobile, Alabama October 22nd - 24th, 2009. It was an opportunity to see old and new friends - artists, art historians, encaustic painters and oil painters.
The keynote speaker was Joel-Peter Witkin. Witkin presented a survey of his work and is known for his photographs of amputated body parts, cripples, distorted figures and composite compositions. They are often hard to take, but they are often directly linked (and often take off of) classical imagery, particularly old-master paintings. Witkin uses wax, at times, to develop surface effects on his photos.
An exhibit of work by SECAC artists contained about 50-70 pieces of which 5 works were encaustic. The artists were Erin Anfinson, Jane Allen Nodine, and Cliff Tierney.
The next SECAC conference will be held at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. VCU is a hotbed of encaustic, thanks to Reni Gower and her Divas and Iron Chefs of Encaustic events. Plans are in the making for another encaustic event there for next year’s SECAC conference. Check back in 2010 for more info.

Leslie Giuliani "EVOLUTION"
Jerry’s Artarama in CT will host an Encaustic and Pigment Stick demonstration on Saturday October 17th from 1-4pm. Artist Leslie Giuliani will be on hand to teach you techniques and answer your questions. Contact Jerry’s Artarama at 1-860-232-0073 for more information.
About the Artist: “When people view my work they are surprised by its individuality. That the work represents a unique voice is very important to me. The work is intriguing in many different ways: the structure- how it’s shaped and built; the imagery- light hearted and darkly primal simultaneously; texture- use of a variety of materials; the interplay of color; and good design. This way as people look deeply into the work it changes with each viewing- the piece evolves, never settling into one specific interpretation- a work that invites visit after visit.”
