Art for Animals
November 15th, 2009 by richardA wonderful exhibit took place this November at the Spencertown Academy Arts Center in Spencertown, NY. The exhibit was a fundraiser for Art for Animals and included works by professional artists and students from the Taconic Hills Middle School.
With all due respect for the adults, the centerpiece for me was the work that the students did in a series of live drawing classes entitled “When the Model Barks” under the tutelage of their teacher, Elizabeth St. Leger. R&F donated Pigment Sticks for the event and you can see for yourself why we are so proud of the use the kids put our paint to.
The “other” artists included Richard Serra, Kiki Smith, William Wegman, Michelle Stuart, Judy Sigunick, Jan Harrison, Amy Sillman, and Ida Applebroog.
Art for Animals is an organization dedicated to rescued animals. Over the last 10 years it has paid medical expenses on companion animals who have come into shelters or rescue networks, often saving them from being euthanized. It has also paid the vet bills for individuals on subsidized incomes.

It was a great event. The kids art was terrific and the oil sticks made all the difference. They had never had the opportunity to work in that medium before and it was amazing to see the quality of their work. Thank you for your generosity in supporting the program.
