Gesso Compound

Glue gesso, the traditional chalk (or gypsum) ground, is distinctly different from the acrylic gesso we commonly know today. It is one of the most sensuous surfaces one can paint on, and its use as a primer goes back to ancient Egypt. Our compound is composed of 6 parts whiting (natural chalk) to 1 part zinc white pigment. In recipes this compound is sometimes referred to as "filler".
