show troubles with heat

i travel to fine art shows to sell my art at outdoor shows. with the extreme heat in my booth at shows with no electricity the temperature  can reach above 100 degrees. this causes the wax to soften and transportation becomes very difficult.

i lost one painting when i set it on the side of my trailer while i was setting up my tent and forgot. the direct sunlight on the 90+day melted it right off the board.

my main concern is when a client buys one of my paintings and i take it off the wall and it is very soft.

does anyone have any tricks or ideas. i am now wrapping the painting in foam packing but i still have fear that if they set it down or lean against something it will damage the painting. i am painting large 2'x4' - 3'x7' - 4'x4' and find building custom packages too time consuming and cost prohibitive.

i am from cleveland ohio and not many art goers are familiar with encaustic. i wonder how the artist from texas and arizona where temp are even more extreme handle there paintings.

Re: show troubles with heat

I would cut triple or double thick planks of cardboard and tape them around the edges of your frames.  If the frames rise up a 1/4 from the paint surface this would give you the best protection.  Of course it would also heat up the surface just as fast.  I have been thinking about this too.  Another concern more so then heat is dust and dirt.  I am a picky person about preserving my work's integrity.  My thoughts are stick with air conditioning and showing in situations without dust, dirt, or extreme heat.
