Class Levels: Beginner--Intermediate
Works on paper are reinvented in this 3-day multimedia workshop. Explore the nuanced work that can be created by combining a variety of papers, both Western and Japanese, with encaustic. We begin with methods of dipping and saturating the paper with encaustic. Participants will see an immediate change in the characteristics of the paper. Lightweight Japanese papers, for example, become incredibly translucent and luminous. You are encouraged to bring existing works on paper such as prints or drawings for dipping. Other techniques include applying color using tinted medium; painting on a paper surface; monotype and transfer options with R&F Pigment Sticks; and collaging. Laura also demonstrates how to mount drawings and prints on a panel to support working with thicker layers of wax. All experience levels are welcome.
The Awagami Factory is supporting this workshop by generously providing a selection of papers for the students to work on.
