Creative Ways with Wax and Traditional Collagraph | Jun 26 - 29 | Pamela W. Wallace

Class Level: Intermediate - Advanced

In this 4-day class, students will create two or more collagraph plates to be used with encaustic on panel. Students are encouraged to develop imagery that reflects personal artistic goals. Each will bring a selection of textural elements and small objects that may be glued to cardstock to create a plate, or may be pressed into "tacky" gesso to leave an impression. Heavy card stock may also be carved at varying depths to create plate imagery. Gessoed plates will be sealed so the plate can be used with wax.

Plate imagery will be offset into wax with options for inlay, R&F Pigment Stick, and graphite, to enhance the image. Multiple "printings" into wax, with layered imagery, will also be explored. Students that have previously printed collagraphs on paper, or have other heavily embossed papers may bring them to use during the workshop. Methods for fixing and infusing these papers will be taught. This workshop is recommended for intermediate to advanced students with encaustic. Printmaking experience is not necessary.
